  • Thermal Engineering Laboratory is offered the practical courses to the second year B.E. (Mechanical Engineering), second year B.E. (Automobile Engineering) and second year B.E. (Electronics Instrumentation Engineering) students. This laboratory consist of various components, cut section model and experimental facility of IC engines by varying the fuel, no. of cylinder and types of loading. The total are of the Thermal Engineering Laboratory is 403.75 sq.m. The laboratory is constructed to provide the experimental knowledge on combustion theory and analyzing the performance of IC engine.

  • The Basic workshop laboratory is a centralized facility available in department of mechanical engineering established with 772.95 sq.m. of area. To familiarize with the basic manufacturing processes and to study the various tools and equipment used, hands-on training is given in welding, Sheet metal, Foundry, Carpentry, Plumbing, Fitting.

  • The BIT-Harita laboratory is a central facility available in Department of Mechanical Engineering established with 164 sq.m. of area and consists of high end software & hardware with the value of Rs. 80 Lakhs. The lab provides digitally integrated environment where all the students of the UG, PG, research scholars and faculty can work for sketching, modeling, drafting, simulation and analysis. The students are trained in modeling field for Placement. The students are also focused in modeling so that they can participate in various International and National level competitions.

Various processes, machinery, and operations will be examined with emphasis placed on understanding engineering materials and processing parameters that influence design considerations, product quality, and production costs. The following exercises help the students to produce components as per the given drawing using lathe machine, also to develop the basic machine ability concepts and improve to your teamwork and entrepreneurial skills.

  • Strength of Materials Laboratory comes under Layer Learning course (Theory and Practical) which is offered to the fourth semester B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) students. The total area of the Strength of Materials Laboratory is 356.424 sq.m.Strength of Materials Laboratory consist of experiments that determines the Hardness, Elastic Modulus, Rigidity Modulus, Impact Strength of materials and Torsion of shafts and springs. There are experiments to determine the slope and defection of metal beams and Fatigue Strength of materials. The experiments are designed in such a way that the concepts of destructive testing of materials can be demonstrated and analyzed for real-time scenarios.

  • Kinematics & Dynamics Laboratory comes under Layer Learning course (Theory and Practical) which is offered to the fifth semester B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) students. The Kinematics & Dynamics Laboratory is primarily focused on mechanism and dynamic analysis of mechanical system. It is build up with an area of 365 sq.m. and established in the year 1997. It is equipped with governor, gyroscope, digital dynamic balancing machine, cam analyzer and torque indicator. It also provides platform to the research and development in the field of vibration which equipped with Electro dynamic shaker.

  • Metrology is the science of measurement and is concerned with standardization in measurement, calibration and inspection. The metrology laboratory is mainly focused to provide fundamental knowledge on units and standards, measurement methods and selection of appropriate measuring instrument. It is built up with an area of 262.431 sq. m. To achieve closure tolerance, this lab is equipped with digital measuring instruments like vernier caliper, dial gauge, micrometer, thickness gauge, sprit level, profile projector and coordinate measuring machine. The students are exposed to learn linear, angular and form measurement with real time machine components. Research scholars utilizing the surface roughness meter to check the surface quality of the specimen. This laboratory is fully air conditioned to maintain the precision and accuracy of measuring instruments.

  • Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering course (Theory and Practical) is offered to the first semester B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) students. Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering Laboratory consist of experiments, demonstrating the fundamental concepts of science and mechanical engineering. The total area of the Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering Laboratory is 291.54 sq. m. Various mechanical components, parts, prototypes and models are displayed in this laboratory to enable the students to understand the fundamental concepts of mechanical engineering in a better way and practical manner.

  • Engineering Mechanics - Statics course (Theory and Practical) is offered to the first semester B.E. (Mechanical Engineering) students. The experiments are designed such that the concepts of mechanics can be demonstrated, studied and analyzed for real-time scenarios. Engineering Statics Laboratory consist of experiments that, Verifies Parallelogram and Triangle law of forces, demonstrates the coplanar and non-coplanar force systems, equilibrium of rigid bodies, determining the centroid and moment of inertia of irregular shapes and understanding the mechanism of friction. The total area of the Engineering Statics Laboratory is 291.54 sq. m.

  • 3D printing lab of BIT is established to equip the students in the area of additive manufacturing. The laboratory rooms totally four commercial 3D printers works based on Fusion Deposition Modeling and Digital Light Projection Technology. The facility is capable of servicing to the need of Jewellery, Medical and Industrial business sectors. The filaments for the 3D printers are manufactured internally using the screw extruder and researching about new composite material filaments for 3D printers. Besides reverse engineering works are carried out with the help of 3D scanner and CNC machines. The major applications are, Master copies for vacuum casting and other low volume prototyping techniques, Patterns for investment casting, Functional testing prototypes, Low volume/ limited edition products especially for complex geometries, Visual prototypes for photo shoots and market testing, Dental/ jewelry/ art and other sectors which require high detailing and finish.

  • Heat transfer laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Department occupies the total area of 363.66 sq. m.This includes the equipment for the students for the curriculum of R2015 regulations. In addition to that, it has research facilities like fluidized bed heat transfer and transient heat transfer apparatus. This lab has a potential for understanding the concepts of three modes of heart transfer viz., conduction, convection and radiation. The lab is updated with plate type heat exchanger, double pipe heat exchanger and drop wise & film wise condensation apparatus.

  • Non - Destructive Testing (NDT) is a technique to inspect, test or analyze a material or a whole assembly for the discontinuities in its characteristics without damaging the system and its parts. The main advantage of NDT is that the sample can be used even after the testing is complete. NDT methods are available for inspecting tubing, pipes, bars, plates, castings, fasteners and many other products. Lab testing also performs non-destructive testing of welds. The total area of the NDT laboratory is 120 sq.m.

It also provides platform to the research and development in the field of Tribology and manufacturing which equipped with friction and wear tester (Dry and wet type), Vacuum Diffusion bonding and Induction melting furnace. It has extended facilities in the area of Powder metallurgy which is equipped with V-Blender, Hydraulic press, Ball Milling and Tubular furnace sponsored by AICTE at a cost of Rs.20.4 Lakhs.

It also provides platform to the research and development in the field of active vibration control which equipped with quarter car suspension tes rig and rapid control platform.
